The government is appointing a representative for every 10 households in Hawarer Dil, Maungdaw North. The representative (known to some as Chengum) will be responsible for informing the government if any within their respective households are responsible for revolutionary activities.
The announcement was made on Tuesday.
The news has been greeted by dismay among the Rohingyas as many allege their leaders are known government collaborators who are related in extortion of innocent civilians.
Some of the leaders also expressed concerns saying they will be held responsible by the government if any of their people are involved in rebel activities, which is very difficult to monitor amid mass hatred towards security forces.
Our correspondent says the rest of the region might see this new system introduced sometime soon.
