Tatmadaw forces entered Ra Bai La and Bura Shida Para of Maungdaw North on Sunday, in separate raids, and assaulted Rohingya civilians, resulting in serious injuries for many.
At least 15 people, mostly elderly men and women who could not run away when the military entered the village were injured.
In both the village tracts, those apprehended by the security forces were gathered into an area and seriously beaten up. They were later released in the day.
There are reports of sexual assaults but cannot be confirmed at the moment.
In November, Tatmadaw attacked Ra Bai La along with the nearby villages of Sa Li Frang, Sau Ra Gazi Bil and Bor Gazi Bil with helicopters, rocket launchers and heavy machine guns after protesters armed with sticks stopped an army team from carrying out rape of Muslim women. At least 150 people, including women and children were killed in the attacks, with entire families being wiped out. Since then, the army had cracked down on survivors, killing more, while hundreds of Muslim women were raped and forced to strip in full view of the public while soldiers touched their private parts and passed lewd comments about them and the Islamic religion.
Bura Shida Para was under continuous assault since the first days of the crackdown that started in October with many civilians killed, while even children were arrested and tortured. Multiple eyewitnesses reported corpses floating in the river adjoin the village tract.
