On Thursday, 71 Rohingya refugees who set sail from Bangladesh refugee camp landed in Aceh, Indonesia. Amongst 71 Rohingya, 21 are women and 20 are children.
The Rohingya leave refugee camps and sets off for deadly voyage cause of unemployment and lack of education in the country. Shorif Uddin (15) who was on the boat along with his parents said, he saw people dying for lack of food in the sea.
“We have been traveling so long and did not have any food to eat. We are really hungry,” he said.
Shorif’s parents paid money to board the boat along with other refugees, but the captain fled the vessel as it was passing India.
Miftach Cut Adek, the Leader of the Tribal Fishing Community in Lampanah Leungah village in Aceh Besar District said, the boat was in good condition and the engine was working.
