Buthidaung- An elderly Rohingya man was killed by Tatmadaw personal when he refused to do slave labour.

On Friday, Abdul Malek, 53, was outside his village of Emmai Para when a group of army personal intercepted him and said he would have to do slave labour for them. Abdul refused saying he was too old to work as a labourer at this age. As soon as he said this, the soldiers proceeded to beat him, and started smashing his head against the rocks.

The force of the attack caused the brains fall out from out his head. He perished on the spot.

Later, army personal took his corpse to the village and told his relatives to hush the entire affair.

One source said the Tatmadaw had paid 2million kyats to family members and threatened them with death if they disclose the affair.

Incidentally slave labour, commonly known as forced labour is a practice where army or paramilitary force Rohingyas to do hard labour for them without any payment.

Some other villagers from the area have in the meantime agreed to serve the Tatmadaw as porters without any payment.
