The number of attackers dressed as civilians are causing confusion among the ranks of Rohingya Muslims.
Since Sunday, the bloody crackdown has been led mostly by army personal. However, on Wednesday, it was noticed in a number of instances that many attackers accompanying the military were dressed as civilians. But they were carrying the same automatic rifles, generally used by the army.
This has led to speculations that many Buddhist nationalists are openly carrying weapons used by the military. Alternatively, it might be that those dressed as civilians are also military personnal. In this case, it would mean the military is trying to claim that some of the attacks on Rohingya Muslims are carried by civilians and they are not responsible.
Either way, it seems the army is trying to engineer a situation similar to 2012 when gangs of politically motivated Buddhist nationalists massacred hundreds of Muslim civilians.
There are also reports that the army is planting land mines near Rohingya villages.
