A fire broke out in D Block of Camp-2W around 9:00 pm, originating from the shelter of Yesmin Ara, a female-headed household. The blaze spread rapidly through the densely packed area, causing significant damage before being brought under control through the swift and coordinated efforts of the local community.
No injuries were reported, but the fire left one shelter completely destroyed and three others partially damaged. Aman Ullah’s shelter suffered the most, with nothing left of the home. The displaced families now face urgent needs for shelter and materials to rebuild their homes.
Initial community reports indicate that the fire was caused by a gas cylinder explosion, a common risk in the camp due to the widespread use of such equipment for cooking.
Humanitarian organizations and local authorities are being called upon to provide immediate support to the affected families as they recover from this devastating incident. The Rohingya refugee camps remain vulnerable to such disasters due to overcrowded living conditions and limited resources, underscoring the need for improved safety measures.
Authorities are investigating the incident further to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of the camp residents.
For those wishing to assist, donations of materials or funds to support the rebuilding efforts are urgently needed.
