A village chairman has been dismissed by the government after 76 families living under his jurisdiction did not leave their homes and move alongside a canal.
On Friday, Mohammad Amin, village chairman of Guder Pyin, Buthidaung was terminated by Myanmar government officials. Previously, 76 families were commanded to leave their home and build a temporary shack at nearby canals.
Associate administrator Kabir Ahmed has also been officially dismissed.
While much of the populace in Buthidaung has already fled to Bangladesh following brutal atrocities in 2017, a small percentage still remains. However in recent weeks, government officials have ordered most villagers in Buthidaung to leave their original habitats and settle alongside canals and waterways until the government builds IDP camps for them.
All villages attacked by the security forces has been claimed as government property, according to oral directives by government officials.
Our correspondent in the area says the dismissal of two top village officials deemed close to the government shows that the regime is serious in ending all Rohingya villages at least in the wider Buthidaung area.
