On Friday (14 April) around 2 pm, a commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and a woman have been killed during firing between ARSA members and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) at Ukhiya camp-18.
The deceased are ARSA commander Hashim, son of Boshir Ahmed of camp-18, and wayfarer Noor Haba, wife Nurul Islam of the same camp.
Assistant Superintendent of APBn Farooq Ahmed confirmed the firing and said that the APBn members enclosed the area after receiving information about the location of 20-25 ARSA armed members on the hilly slope of Rohingya camp-18, block 17L.
“Sensing the presence of APBn, they started firing indiscriminately, and APBn also responded by firing, where an ARSA commander and a woman received bullet injury and passed away on the spot. And two police officers also received injury. At the same time, police captured one Sadek with weapon while running away.”
Police officer Farooq Ahmed continued that Hashim was involved in various crimes including murders, drug dealing, kidnapping and extortion in the Rohingya camp.
