La Wa Ka and Ma Ye Ka officials took land measurements in the Northern Maungdaw region on Sunday in what seems to be a preparation to build an IDP camp.
The officials operated all the way from Sau Raw Gazi Bil to Mangala, a region that has been at the receiving end of heavy military assaults since November 2016, resulting in the indiscriminate killings of Muslim population including children, as attack helicopters pounded everything and everyone in the village.
The government has since declared that all the Rohingya villages destroyed by their forces have become their property, without showing any particular legislation.
Speeches by government officials and nationalist leaders have indicated that the IDP camp to accept refugees from Bangladesh should be a bit far from the border so that they cannot have any contact with the outside world.
Approximately 140,000 Rohingyas are housed in government controlled IDP camps in Akyab and Central Arakan where aid agencies have described living conditions as worst in the world.
