A man has died following assault by Hlun Htein forces in Raimba Khali, Maungdaw North.
Mostafa was fishing in the river near the village on Saturday when Hlun Htein men intercepted him. They proceeded to severely assault him.
He was released later in the day when villagers came up with a ransom of 700,000 kyats.
But his condition deteriorated and he was taken to the hospital the next morning. He however died at around 10am on Sunday.
Incidentally, the victim’s mother also died last year when Hlun Htein prevented her from being taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Rohingya villagers have said the security personal throughout the entire state of Arakan have imposed a blockade making it very risky to leave their villages. As a result, the Rohingyas are prevented access from their livelihood options as well as the markets. It is also impossible to go to the hospitals.
While this blockade was always common, it was less intense in the Maungdaw area. Not anymore.
Activists have long warned that the imposition of this blockade is a strategy to create starvation in Muslim settlements and force them to migrate out of the country.
