On the morning of last September 20, the battalion commander called a meeting and ordered the Rohingya village administrators to harvest the rice fields planted in the area of the Burmese army base in Kyauk Taw, where Rakhine militant group AA blocked the plying of Rohingyas, when they went to harvest military land last month.
The Rohingya villagers of San Ka Taung and Yadan were forcefully told to harvest more than 200 acres of rice fields allegedly owned by the army, despite tension between the Myanmar Army and Arakan Army in Kyaukta Township.
The Rohingya villagers said that they are worried about the Arakan Army’s (AA) response if they are forced to harvest the paddy fields again due to the Myanmar military’s repression and pressure.
The local Rohingyas of Yadana and San Ka Taung living in Kyaukta Township are located within the territory of the Myanmar Army (9) base and are under the control of the Arakan Army as well. As a result, Rohingya villagers are facing pressure, including traffic blocking during the frequent confrontation between the two armed forces.
