On 4 August the military council arrested 72 Rohingyas on a boat in the sea 4 miles away from Khaing Thani village of Laputta township, Irrawaddy.
“On Friday morning, the navy and the police arrested the boat because it was suspected that it had broken down and was floating. It is known that they brought the boat from Laputta to Polong village the day before. It is known that they are currently detained in Laputta,” said a person close to the administration.
It is reported that there are 5 women and 67 men arrested and all of them are currently being held in Laputta Township.
According to initial reports, the stateless people who were caught on the boat were the people going to work from Bangladesh to Malaysia.
