Myanmar Muslims from different ethnicity including Rohingya formed a Muslim committee to serve for the betterment of the country. On 29th May, the committee – Muslims of Myanmar Multi-ethnic Consultative Committee (MMMCC)has vowed to work on five essential priniciples which they believe will help to restore equal rights under the law as the present revolution against the military dictator causing chaos in Myanmar.
A statement released on their official Facebook page says, “MMMCC is going to carry out firm resistance against the dictatorship, and work towards a federal democratic country which gives equal rights to every citizen, by joining hands with alliance that sharing similar values and objectives.”
The statement also attached it’s five objectives including obtaining assurances from National Unity Government (NUG) regarding the policies towards Myanmar Muslims, Rohingya and other ethnic groups. MMMCC will also help NUG to be recognized by governments and international organisations.
Speaking about another main objective, MMMCC spokesperson Ko Kyaw Win said to Anadolu Agency, “Then we expect the NUG government to abolish the controversial 1982 Citizenship Law, which has denied the centuries-old legitimacy of ethnic Muslims,” called it “a Nazi-type law.”
On Sunday, NUG has released a statement where it said, “We are very concerned about the difficult situation of the Rohingya, especially those who fled to Bangladesh.”
