Hundreds of newly arrived Rohingya families in Camp-20 at Cox’s Bazar are facing dire conditions as they struggle to survive without adequate humanitarian assistance. Fleeing escalating violence and persecution in Myanmar, these refugees have been forced to construct makeshift shelters using bamboo, plastic sheets, and other discarded materials. With little access to food, clean water, or medical care, the new arrivals are left vulnerable to harsh weather and diseases.
In Camp-20, the overcrowding has intensified the existing resource strain. Refugees are reportedly sleeping on the ground with insufficient shelter, and many are unable to meet their daily nutritional needs. “We came here seeking safety, but we have no food, no proper shelter, and no one to help us,” lamented one refugee, reflecting the widespread despair among the newcomers.
The situation in the camp is further complicated by a deteriorating security environment. Reports indicate a rise in criminal activities such as extortion, kidnapping, and violence, which not only undermine the safety of the refugees but also hinder any relief efforts. Local camp residents have voiced their concerns over the lack of effective law enforcement and the slow pace of aid distribution by humanitarian organizations.
Humanitarian agencies are being urged to increase their support and provide immediate relief to ease the suffering of these vulnerable families. As the Rohingya crisis continues to escalate, the international community is called upon to take prompt action to address the urgent needs and ensure that these refugees receive the protection and assistance necessary to rebuild their lives.
