On Tuesday morning a delegation team led by UN especial envoy on Myanmar Noeleen Heyzer visited Rohingya camp 4 at Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar.
Heyzar visited the e-voucher center and UN organization run activities at camp 4. Besides Heyzer, the delegation team consist of four members who talked with the Rohingya youth, women, and religious leaders on camp situations and repatriation issues.
The Rohingyas who participated in the talks with the United Nations delegations say that they will not return to Myanmar if they do not get security assurances including the recognition of rights and citizenship.
UNHCR spokesperson, Regina de la Portilla said that the importance of Heyzer’s visit is to ensure the safe repatriation of the Rohingyas. In addition, the United Nations is working intensively on the safe repatriation of the Rohingya.
Portilla also said, “We are looking for ways to solve the crisis with all international organizations. The United Nations believes that repatriation must be sustainable.”
Portilla also said that Heyzar came to Bangladesh on a four-day visit to see the situation of Rohingya refugees. She talked to them to understand herself, how they are now and what they hope for in the future. Especially, about going back home. Most want to return home but only when it is safe, and their rights are guaranteed. Her visit was mainly for documentation purposes, to complete the official duties of their return home, as a step towards ensuring their freedom of education and movement and their status as citizens of a state.
