The plight of Rohingya daily wage workers have become dire due to the Corona restriction and lack of any financial support.
Especially daily wage workers and delivery boys who work in the market places are jobless these days. For an instant, in Thay Chaung and Thet Kay Pyin Goon Bazaar where around 300 daily labourers are roughly able to work for half a day due to covid-19 restriction. As a result, their income has halved while the price of commodities have increased.
A worker said, “we are currently starving and, if the situation goes like this, we will not survive for long.”
Another labourer explained in anguish, “I need strength to carry goods and money to survive. I don’t know if the disease will kill us or not, but hunger surely will. This situation is more dangerous than Coronavirus for us.”
The government nor the NGOs provide any rations to the poor and needy people who live outside the IDP camps. The humanitarian aids are mainly distributed in the IDP camps.
