In the last two days, 10-15 Rohingyas fled Myanmar and took shelter in Ukhiya, Kutupalong, and Balukhali camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Due to conflicts going on inside Myanmar for the past few days, the Myanmar Military Council has cut off Rohingyas’ livelihood and are moving in to the area. The challenges are causing starvation and other hardships on the Rohingya.
According to local sources, thousands more Rohingyas are preparing to enter Bangladesh. They enter through different borders of Ghumdhum, Tumbru, Ukhia, and Teknaf in Naikshyongchari of Bandarban.
Hasan, a refugee, said that the Rohingyas are fleeing, because sensing opportunity both Myanmar military and Arakan Army use Rohingya as human shield in the conflict going in Rakhine state.
Another Rohingya woman said, “In August, the members of Arakan Army came to my home and said us to enter the camp built in Maungdaw. AA said they want to use our village as battle field. When we refused, some of the AA personnel tried to sexually assault me. And they killed my husband in front of my eyes when my husband tried to resist them. Ultimately they proposed me either to marry one of them or to accept Buddhist religion. Otherwise I was threatened to be killed. Any how I escaped AA’s brutalities and came to Bangladesh.”
“Not only is Rakhine rebel group is forcing us to leave the village but also the Myanmar military is doing the same thing against Rohingya,” another Rohingya said.
