On Sunday (15 January) in the afternoon, local kidnappers released six Rohingyas with a ransom of 3,00,000 taka after abducting them.
The abductees are: Md Feroz, Md. Johar, Md. Nur, Nurul Haque, Zahid Hossain and Md. Idris. All of them are residents of Camp No. 21.
According to relatives, on January 13, a local man took them to an unknown place and kept them hostage by offering work as laborer. This afternoon, the kidnapper released the abductees with a ransom of 3,00,000 taka for all.
ASP of APBn Manjurul said said, “This afternoon, the relatives of the abductee gave a ransom of Tk 3 lakh to the abductors. They were then released. At 6 in the evening they returned to their own room in the camp. APBN members contacted their families after receiving information about the return of the abductees. At that time, they informed that they would be released by paying a ransom of 3 lakh taka.”
He also said, “According to the information provided by the victims, a local, Mohammad Belal was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.”
ASP further said that preparations are underway to file a case in this regard at Teknaf police station.
