This is a story of Nuru, a 47 years old Rohingya refugee residing in Nayapara registered camp, block H. He is the father of four sons and four daughters. His elder son Abdul Korim, 19 has also started working in a local factory after studying seven grades. Abdul Korim wanted to continue his studies, but there was no option available for him. However, the rest three of his children are studying in primary schools. His elder daughter is married and has two children.
Mr Nuru every day goes out and makes sweet street foods, which he sells in the camp. His average income is around tk220. He also gets 3 kg rice, 250 gm oils, 1 kg pulses, 250 gm salts, 1 kg potatoes, 7 pieces of eggs, 500 gm sugar, 500 gm onions, 40 gm garlic, 150 gm chile, and 100 gm turmeric etc. for each person every month.
Nuru said to Rohingya Khobor (RK),” I and my elder son, work very hard every day, so we can provide education for the other children of mine. My income is not enough for their education”.
Finally, Nuru said, “it has been thirty years, he is living as a refugee and his children and grandchildren are born in the camp as refugees. Although I want to return to my homeland, Arakan, I do not see any willingness from the Myanmar government to take us back. Now the only hope for me is education for my children. I hope the world will focus on Rohingya higher education.”
