On 9 September 2022 early morning members of Arakan Army (AA) equipped with arms, patrolled at Yaung Chaung village of Buthidaung, dressing in traditional Muslim attire while on the night of 8 September the AA members enclosed the cantonment of Border Guard Police (BGP) at Yaung Chaung.

A Rohingya from Buthidaung who declined to be named said, “Some 20-30 members of Rakhine rebel group AA who can speak in Rohingya language came to Yaung Chaung village in disguise of Muslim tradition and patrolled around the village.”

Another Rohingya from the village told Rohingya Khobor (RK) that on 8 September from 9 pm to 4 am the members of AA encompassed the BGP cantonment of Yaung Chaung where no firing and causalities were reported. But the notable thing is that in the next early morning some 20-30 AA members who dressed as Muslim tradition with fire arms in hand were noticed in the village.

“I think the patrolling of AA’s member in Muslim dress is a heinous propaganda against we Rohingyas,” Kyaw Hla said and added that the Rohingyas in Rakhine state are usually under hostage of Myanmar military Council and Rakhine rebel group AA. For which AA members deliberately did this iniquitous act to make Rohingya villages their battle field and even to use Rohingyas as human shield.

S Alam a refugee elder from camp 26 told RK that encircling the cantonment by AA members at night and the next morning their perambulating in Rohingya village wearing Muslim dress is nothing except well designed propaganda against Rohingya ethnic minority that has been going on since decades.

The general Rohingyas still staying in Rakhine state are in fear whether they have to face similar atrocities of 2017 committed by Myanmar junta.
