On 2nd July 2020, four Rohingya man and on 3rd July, five Rohingya women and two minor were sentenced for six months jail, under the immigration act, article 13(1) by Maungdaw district court for illegally entering Myanmar from Bangladesh. The two minors were handed over to the concerned village administrator.
Section 13(1) of the Immigration Act says: “Whoever enters or attempts to enter the Union of Burma or whoever after legal entry remains or attempts to remain in the Union of Burma in contravention of any of the provisions of this Act or the rules made thereunder or any of the conditions set out in any permit or visa shall be punished with imprisonment for a term.”
