122 Rohingyas attempt to flee to Malaysia from Bangladesh

Yesterday, about 122 Rohingya refugees were rescued from the Bay of Bengal by Bangladesh coast guard. The refugees were boarded to the boats illegally, to flee for Malaysia. Apparently the boats started sinking due to technical problem on the boat. “Our patrol team rushed there after being informed by the fishermen out at sea that a boat was sinking due to engine failure,” said Lieutenant Commander Saiful Islam. “So far this year Bangladesh police and coast guard have prevented more than 500 Rohingya refugees from being trafficked to Malaysia,” he added. According to the source, the coast guard rescued 58 women, 47 men and 17 children from the sinking boat.
