Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar – January 25, 2025
The Bangladesh Navy successfully rescued 17 individuals, including 14 Rohingya refugees and 3 Bangladeshi citizens, from the Kachpiya Hill area of Baharchhara Union in Teknaf at approximately 3 PM today. During the operation, one trafficker, identified as Ali Abdullah, was apprehended.
Acting on secret information, the Navy discovered that the group, which included men, women, and children, was preparing to be trafficked to Malaysia. The swift operation led to the rescue of the group before the smugglers could proceed with their plan.
The rescued individuals have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further procedures. The arrested trafficker, Ali Abdullah, is expected to face legal action, as confirmed by an official from the Bangladesh Navy’s Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR).
This incident underscores the ongoing risks faced by vulnerable populations, particularly Rohingya refugees, who often fall victim to human trafficking networks in their quest for safety and better opportunities. The Bangladesh Navy remains committed to combating such illicit activities and ensuring the safety of those at risk.
