Teknaf, October 31, 2025 — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 26 Rohingya refugees, including women and children, from an attempted human trafficking operation to Malaysia by sea.
The rescue took place on October 29 near Abdul Ali Ghat in the Jumma Para area of Baharchhara, Teknaf. Acting on secret information, a Coast Guard team launched an overnight operation and intercepted the group aboard a trawler preparing to depart.
Officials said the traffickers had lured the Rohingyas with false promises of jobs in Malaysia at a low cost. However, before the raid, the traffickers managed to flee, and no arrests were made.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque stated that the Coast Guard will continue its intelligence surveillance to identify and apprehend members of the trafficking network.
The rescued Rohingyas were later handed over to the authorities for necessary assistance, protection, and reintegration.
Human trafficking through the Bay of Bengal continues to pose a grave threat to Rohingya refugees, many of whom risk their lives on perilous sea journeys in search of safety and better opportunities abroad.
