A Myanmar delegation has come again to Teknaf to carry out information verification activities of Rohingyas under the repatriation process.
Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Md. Samsud Douja confirmed it.
He said that the delegation of 28 members of Myanmar arrived at Teknaf jetty after crossing the river on Wednesday morning. At this time they were welcomed. They were then taken to the government rest house. Verification of 60 families of Rohingyas was going on there, which will continue till afternoon. However, those who came today mainly came to check the Rohingyas.
Earlier, a 34-member Myanmar delegation arrived at Teknaf on Tuesday (October 31). The delegation was divided into two groups. One team carried out screening of 80 Rohingya families and another team discussed repatriation with 100 family heads. Later in the evening they returned to Myanmar without any decision.
Security has been beefed up in the Teknaf Rest House area following the arrival of the Myanmar delegation. Along with APBN police there is also BGB.
Earlier this year Myanmar delegation came to Teknaf twice. Myanmar representatives came to exchange views with the Rohingyas in the first round on March 15 and the second round on May 25. Meanwhile, on May 5, a delegation of 7 members from Bangladesh and 20 members of Rohingya also went to observe the situation in Maungdaw, Myanmar.
In 2018, Bangladesh handed over the list of more than 8 lakh Rohingyas to Myanmar. Myanmar government verified the list of only 101,000 Rohingya among them. More than 1.2 lakh Rohingya are sheltered in 33 camps in Ukhia and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar. But Myanmar has not taken back a single Rohingya in the last six years.
