On 13 August 2023 around 10pm, police rescued 32 Rohingyas during trafficking in Cox’s Bazar.  At this time, a broker named Joynal (28) was arrested from Cox’s Bazar terminal area.

Inspector Mohinul Islam of Cox’s Bazar City Police outpost confirmed this.

According to police sources, there are 15 children, 10 women and 8 men among the rescued Rohingyas. These Rohingyas are residents of various camps in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

Inspector Mohinul Islam also said that a team of police conducted an operation based on the news that a number of Rohingyas have been gathered in front of Cox’s Bazar terminal Shyamoli counter for trafficking. Sensing the presence of the police, some traffickers fled from the scene, but one was arrested.

He also said that a case is being filed against the detained broker in Sadar police station.  However, it is not known whether the rescued Rohingyas will be sent back to the camp or sent to jail.
