After a year of mobile network and internet limitation, yesterday the Bangladesh authority restored 3G and 4G mobile services at the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. According to the source in the telecom companies said the BTRC sent the instruction to them at 10 am to restore the services.
On last Sunday, the decision to lift the restrictions was made at a meeting which was stated by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan. On Wednesday, the task force sent a letter to the post and telecommunication ministry informing them of the decision.
The decision to lift the restrictions comes amidst repeated calls from UN agencies, local, national and international NGOs, and humanitarian aid workers. They have been saying that the restrictions hinder the desperately needed services and access to information in the world’s largest refugee settlement.
