Approximately 74 Rohingyas have been arrested from different cities and towns of Uttar Pradesh, India. The local police said that they were arrested for illegal migration.
Some of the Rohingyas who sought refuge in India to escape the violence have been living there for almost 10 years. A human rights organization has claimed that some of them work there like garbage and waste cleaning.
According to the concerned police on Monday (July 24), these Rohingya Muslims have been arrested from six cities and towns in Uttar Pradesh, which included 10 teenagers.
Director of Delhi-based Rohingya Human Rights Initiative Sabar Kyau Min said, “calling these Rohingyas ‘illegal” is unfair. Many of them have been living in India for 10 years or more. They lead a hard life. Many of them work as scavengers.”
According to the Rohingya Human Rights Initiative, around 18,000 Rohingyas live in India as of early last year.
