This week, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Myanmar reached 887 individuals and more than 400 individuals were reported in the Rakhine state., crossing 400.
The first case of Coronavirus was confirmed at Sittwe by the Ministry of Health and Sports (MoHS) in mid-August 2020. Since then, the number of locally transmitted cases has continued to increase in Rakhine State. According to OCHA report (published on 1st September 2020) cites, “The recent surge in local transmission includes Covid-19 positive cases among the personnel of the United Nations agencies and international non-governmental organisations (INGO).
The report also adds, “No cases have been reported in camps or sites for internally displaced people (IDP).”
The Rakhine State Government strictly implemented the “stay at home” measure. Sittwe General Hospital is working as a hub for 16 townships for treating COVID positive patients.
