On September 4, 2022, at around the 7am morning, a Rohingya man was killed by police by the police from the battalion 36 at security check point, in front of the Sittwe University in Sittwe Township.
The deceased has been identified as Zawmir Huson, son of Basarmyia, who resides at Dar Paing of Sittwe township.
When Zawmir Husson left from the Dar Pain village with his motorcycle, he was stopped at the check point stationed between carpenter village and battalion 36. One on duty police officer asked about traveling documents from him. Zawmir Husson explained he had left the COVID checkup certificate issued by the village administrator at home. During the time of explanation about this matter, a police officer within close distance shot Zawmir in the neck with a handgun.
“Zawmir died instantly,” stated a Rohingya youth from Sittwe Township to Rohingya Khobor. He continued, “we need justice and proper investigation into this matter. We are voiceless and hopeless since 2012.”
Mr. Zaw Min Htut, a Rohingya leader from Japan, noted on Facebook, “The lives of the Rohingyas are under constant threat & every single day Rohingya lose their lives.”
