Forty people were allegedly observed running out of three separate locations along the Naf River, according to reports from the area.
On Saturday morning, May 4, a number of more members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Force (BGP) sought safety in Bangladesh by crossing the Naf river three times at the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar.
The information was verified by Mainul Kabir, the director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Myanmar division.
However, he was unable to give a specific figure for the number of BGP men who arrived in Bangladesh today.
“These BGP members escaped [Myanmar] with arms and ammunition through the Naf river in Teknaf this morning due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar,” he claimed.
“It could be fewer than fifty,” he stated.
The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has not yet provided a statement on the subject. Forty people were allegedly observed escaping through three separate locations along the Naf River, according to local sources. Earlier, the government returned 618 personnel of Myanmar’s security services to their home nation in two stages. The troops had sought refuge in Bangladesh in recent weeks.
