A refugee woman died after failing to get medical care in Shaplapur, Bangladesh.
Solema Khatunn, 42, died on Sunday after suffering from ulcer. Earlier, she had gone to a local medical centre operated by the International Organisation of Migration in the locality but staff claimed they were too overwhelmed to see her.
Our correspondent says the centre operated by the IOM is the only access to medical care for the thousands of Rohingya refugees in the Shaplapur and Leda region. However, the hospital is known only to treat a few privileged Bengalis who have influence in the region. Neither Rohingya refugees, nor the vast majority of destitute Bengalis can expect medical care from this clinic.
In recent years, the Bangladesh government has greatly restricted aid for Rohingya refugees.
