On Tuesday at around 6 pm at Zailla gata of Zadimura, Teknaf; a Rohingya boy died in a road accident after being hit by a heavy truck. The deceased was identified as Nur Hashem (10,) son of Md Khan residing at Zadi Mura. According to locals, the vehicle driver Gias Uddin son of Abdus Salam from Cox’s Bazar drove the truck over Hashem when he was crossing the road.
At first, victim Hashem was knocked down by that truck and severely injured, as the driver went back to pull off the child lost his life.Teknaf police arrested the driver and seized his license.
Road accidents leading to serious injuries and even death of Rohingya refugees especially small children is common on the Teknaf Cox’s Bazaar highway. Locals identify reckless driving as mostly the common cause as vehicles speed along the highway without paying proper attention to pedestrians.
Road deaths due to reckless driving are common throughout Bangladesh.
