On May 1, while fishing in the Naf River near Rahmater Bill in Ukhiya, 10 local Bangladeshis were abducted by the Arakan Army.
The local Union Parishad Chairman, Gofur Uddin, reported that the fishermen were taken at gunpoint around 8:30 AM.
Md. Tanvir Hossain, the Upazila Executive Officer, confirmed that discussions with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials are ongoing and rescue efforts are being made to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals, whose identities have been established.
Among those kidnapped, seven belong to Palongkhali Union and three hail from the Kutibunia area of Ukhiya.
The relatives of the abducted individuals have expressed deep concern and hope for the swift return of their loved ones.
