Buthidaung, Arakan State – 8 August 2025
The Arakan Army (AA) forcibly abducted Nuru, 40, son of Rashid, from Ward 1 in Buthidaung on 8 August 2025. Witnesses reported that he was taken suddenly, without cause or explanation, leaving his family in shock.
Speaking to Rohingya Khobor, a neighbor said, “He has no political ties, no conflicts with anyone. My brother is just an innocent, kind man. They came and took him, and we don’t even know where.”
Another local resident expressed the fear now gripping the community: “We live each day not knowing who will be taken next. This is not the first time, and it will not stop unless the world speaks for us.”
Nuru’s disappearance comes amid the worsening Rohingya crisis in Arakan State, where civilians face ongoing abductions, forced disappearances, killings, and displacement. The escalating violence has left thousands without safety, while families search in vain for loved ones taken by armed groups.
Human rights advocates warn that the international community’s silence is enabling further abuses, and call for urgent action to protect Rohingya civilians from systematic oppression.
