Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh – February 2025

Amid the ongoing challenges of displacement, stress, and trauma in the Rohingya refugee camps, the Arakan Rohingya Football Federation has successfully organized its second football tournament. Supported by the respected CIC of the RRRC, the event is designed to provide mental relief and boost the morale of refugee youth.

This year’s knockout-style tournament saw 16 teams competing fiercely, with four teams—Namay-2, Namay-5, Namay-8, and Murullah Namay-8—advancing to the semifinals. Organizers emphasized that the tournament is more than just a sporting event; it serves as a vital platform for community bonding, mental well-being, and resilience building among the Rohingya youth.

“This is not merely a game but a way to inspire traumatized people. It helps them stay mentally fit, regain a sense of normalcy, and build unity,” an organizer told TRT World.

Football has emerged as a powerful tool in the refugee camps, offering hope, discipline, and leadership opportunities. By engaging young people in positive activities, the sport helps to mitigate negative influences while strengthening community ties and instilling a sense of purpose.
