Additional money is extracted from Rohingya vendors by the Market Stall tax collector at City Municipal Market in Buthidaung Township.
Three market stall tax collectors at the City Municipal Market in Buthidaung Township namely U Kyaw Hla Myint, U Htay Hlaing and U Saw Maung are charging higher taxes from Rohingya vendors, and are abusing those protests physically and psychologically on a daily basis.
The aforementioned tax collectors are extracting higher tax only from the Rohingya vendors. Rohingyas have no venue to file a complaint or even to speak out.
A vendor told that normally, the Rakhines are charged a tax of 500 kyats per 24 viss bag and a Rohingya/Muslim is charged 1,000 kyats or 1,500 kyats for the same product and quantity.
This is, perhaps another approach that the authority is taking to push the Rohingyas further and to increase the prices of goods that the Rohingyas and Muslims use.
