Miscreants allegedly shot and killed a Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya Rohingya camp for not paying ransom of 9 lakh taka. Another person was injured in this incident.
It is learnt that on the night of Thursday 10-15 gunmen picked two Rohingyas of age 33-35 up to an unknown place while they were talking in Kutupalong camp area.
Deceased is Kabir Ahmed (35) son of Abul Hossain of Ukhiya Registered Camp Block-G, Shed No.6. And the injured is Md. Rafiq (33) son of Amin of Camp 2 East, Block C-2.
The relatives of the deceased said that an armed group of 10 to 15 people abducted Kabir and Rafiq from the camp area and took them to an unknown place. After a while, they called the relatives of the two and demanded a ransom of Tk 9 lakh for each and Tk 18 lakh in total. But it was responded that not even a single taka could be given as ransom. Later, the locals found the two shot dead and took them to the hospital, where the doctor on duty declared Kabir dead.
A Rohingya leader, who did not wish to be named, said that mainly bad elements are committing these crimes in the camp. Murder, rape, kidnapping, ransom has become their daily habit.
Being informed police rushed to the spots and recovered the body. The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar hospital for autopsy.
