A ship laden with arms has docked at Buthidaung, leading to further panic among the few remaining Rohingyas in the area.
The ship anchored near the town at around 5pm on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, porters from the Rakhine community were seen unloading rocket launchers and machine guns from the vessel.
Rocket launchers were used extensively by the Tatmadaw during the operations of 2017 leading to massive civilian casualties. Survivors say the army fired the rocket launchers straight at the fleeing Rohingyas and their homes, not distinguishing between men, women and children.
Many infant children who were not old enough to walk on their home died as a result of the army using rocket launchers to attack Rohingya homes.
Now the arrival of the latest shipment of arms has led to fears that the army might go on another operation. The number of Rohingyas in the area is however very low with the vast majority fleeing to Bangladesh. However some of the villages especially in the southern Buthidaung area were untouched in 2017 and there are concerns the army might take up positions in those areas to wipe out the last pockets of Muslim existence.
