A Cox’s Bazar court has granted a three-day remand for Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi, the chief of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), in connection with a 2020 murder case involving the killing of four individuals in the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp.
The order was issued Wednesday afternoon by Senior Judicial Magistrate Asaf Uddin Asif after hearing a petition filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which had sought seven days to interrogate Jununi.
Court police inspector Md. Ghulam Zilani confirmed that Jununi is a named accused in the case and will be questioned by investigators during the remand period.
Ataullah was brought to court under tight security and later returned to Cox’s Bazar Jail following the hearing.
According to case files, the murder occurred on October 6, 2020, during a violent clash between rival factions in the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya. Four individuals were killed. The CID is currently leading the investigation.
Ataullah and six other suspected ARSA members were previously arrested on March 18, 2025, in separate operations carried out by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Siddhirganj (Narayanganj) and Mymensingh’s New Bazar area.
