On Tuesday (11 April) in the morning, a top commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was killed and three were arrested in gunfight between Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and ARSA members at block-8 of camp 19 in Ukhiya.
The deceased is Abdul Majid alias Lalaya. And the arrested are Mohammed Taher, Jamal Hossain, and Liaqat Ali.
The APBn personnel claims that the killed Majid is one of the top commanders of ARSA and arrested three are his companions.
“Based on a tip-off, an operation was carried out at Camp No 19 on Tuesday morning. Arsa members opened fire at the APBn upon sensing their presence. The APBn also fired back in self-defence. Later, the body of Laliya was recovered from the spot,” APBn Assistant Superintendent of Police (media), Md Faruk Ahmed said and continued that they arrested three more ARSA members alive and recovered a firearm and two rounds of bullets from the spot.
He also said that the deceased Lalaiya was accused in 4 murder cases organized in the Rohingya camp. In addition two policemen were injured in the firing. At present, additional police have been deployed at the scene and surrounding areas to control the situation
