September 22, 2025: In a pre-dawn counter-terrorism operation, the Bangladesh Army arrested six suspected members of the Arakan Army (AA) from Chandanaish, Chattogram, seizing a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. The raid, described as a major security success, was carried out after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.
According to a statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants were directly linked to the Arakan Army, a Buddhist armed group accused of violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. The suspects were reportedly planning activities that posed a threat to Bangladesh’s security and regional stability.
Major Seizure of Arms and Ammunition
Army officials confirmed that a large quantity of firearms, ammunition, and related equipment was recovered during the raid. The haul is believed to have disrupted the group’s operational capacity and prevented potential attacks.
“This operation was launched following credible intelligence,” one source told local reporters. “The individuals arrested are engaged in destructive activities that could have destabilized public safety.”
Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The arrests highlight the Bangladesh Army’s proactive stance in countering extremist networks that operate across borders. The ISPR statement reaffirmed the armed forces’ “unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, security, and stability across Bangladesh,” vowing to continue relentless operations against groups threatening national safety.
The detained suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

Arakan Army Presence a Growing Concern
The incident underlines a broader regional concern: the spillover of Myanmar’s conflict into Bangladesh. While the Arakan Army presents itself as a political movement inside Myanmar, rights groups and security experts have documented its growing hostility toward Rohingya civilians in Rakhine State. Its alleged networks operating in Bangladesh now present fresh security challenges for authorities already grappling with cross-border crime, arms trafficking, and instability around the refugee camps.
