The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a large consignment of fertiliser, medicines, and daily food items that were being smuggled toward Rakhine State in Myanmar, arresting two people during the operation.
According to Coast Guard officials, the seizure took place early Wednesday morning following intelligence that goods were being illegally transported by sea. Around 1:00 am, a special Coast Guard team conducted a raid on a fishing boat near the Nazirartek sea area in Cox’s Bazar.
Lieutenant Commander Siam ul Haq, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, said the search of the vessel led to the recovery of 88 bags of urea fertiliser, valued at approximately Tk 850,000, along with a large quantity of medicines and other essential food items. The goods were allegedly being taken to Rakhine State without paying customs duties.
The two individuals found on the boat were arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Authorities said legal proceedings are underway in connection with the seizure.
Coast Guard officials said patrols and intelligence based operations will continue along the coastal areas to prevent smuggling and illegal trade. They added that such activities not only violate the law but also pose risks to coastal security and regional stability.
