Dr AK Abdul Momen, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, has urged to the international community for unity and concerted efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis in the true spirit of responsibility and burden sharing.
He also urged the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, to engage with the Myanmar authorities as well as other stakeholders to improve the conditions in Arakan state so that the Rohingya refugees can return to their homes without delay. The root cause of Rohingya crisis is lie in Myanmar.
Momen called upon to the special envoy to continue taking a multi- pronged approach and remain engaged with all global and regional actors including ASEAN leadership with a view to fostering lasting peace in Myanmar.
“If given opportunities, the Rohingya people can be important members of Myanmar society and contribute to their socio- economic prosperity, ” he added.
Momen urges UN Special Envoy on Myanmar to enhance engagements to address root causes. In return, the Special Envoy reassured the Foreign Minister to work closely with Bangladesh in securing a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis, according to the Bangladesh Permanent Mission in New York.
