Bangladesh may send some of Rohingya refugee families to Bhashan Char in the first week of November, foreign minister AK Abdul Momen told the reporter on Thursday at his office. The minister didn’t mention how many families will be, relocated to Bhashan Char.
The minister said Bangladesh is determined to its decision of sending a hundred thousand Rohingya refugees to Bhashan Char,
“The director-general of WFP told me that the cost of feeding Rohingya refugees in Bhashan Char would be no more than that of Kutupalong camp. The Rohingya who go to Bhashan Char would get access to work like fishing, poultry, and cattle rearing”, FM said.
“Despite three years have passed, not a single Rohingya refugee has returned to his/her homeland Myanmar. A few days ago, the ambassador of Japan met me and said that Japan is raring to help the Rohingya Repatriation”, he added. Myanmar has good relation with Japan. So, we though Myanmar would listen to Japan.
In November 2016, the “ASRAYAN Projects-3” in Bhashan Char was initiated by the Bangladesh government to relocate hundred thousand Rohingya refugees to that island.
