On Tuesday (2 May) afternoon, President Md Shahabuddin urged India to take more effective steps to quickly repatriate the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their country Myanmar.

The President made this call during the courtesy meeting of India’s High Commissioner Prannoy Kumar Verma with the President at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.

“The President mentioned that Bangladesh has sheltered the Rohingyas for humanitarian reasons, but their position is creating problems not only in Bangladesh, but for the entire region.” President’s Press Secretary Md.  Zainal Abedin said.

Referring to Bangladesh as India’s closest and most important neighbor, the President termed the relationship as ‘strong and unique’.
