Cox’s Bazar, October 13, 2025:
A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer was severely injured when a landmine, reportedly planted by the Arakan Army (AA), exploded near the Bangladesh–Myanmar border on October 12 around noon.
Landmine Explosion Near Border
The injured officer, identified as Nayek Akter Hussein of BGB Battalion No. 34, sustained life-threatening injuries when the device detonated during a routine patrol. His right leg was completely shattered, and his left leg also suffered serious wounds.
According to initial reports, the explosive was buried inside Bangladeshi territory after members of the Arakan Army allegedly crossed the border from Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
A local security official said, “The blast was powerful and unexpected. We believe it was deliberately planted to target patrol teams.”
Security Tightened After Attack
Following the explosion, BGB troops immediately cordoned off the area and conducted a thorough search to ensure there were no additional explosives. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby military hospital for emergency treatment.
Another officer said, “This is not just an attack on one of our soldiers. It is a threat to border peace and security. We will strengthen patrols and coordination to prevent such incidents in the future.”
Authorities have since reinforced security along the Bangladesh–Myanmar frontier and launched an investigation into how the landmine was planted.
Border Communities in Fear
Residents living near the border said they are deeply concerned after the explosion. “We are very worried. These blasts make it unsafe for ordinary people living along the border,” said one local resident.
The Bangladeshi government has condemned the incident, calling it an act that threatens regional stability. Officials reaffirmed their commitment to protect national borders and maintain peace in the frontier areas.
