Eight people were arrested on March 26 after authorities intercepted a fishing boat carrying 550 bags of cement allegedly being transported illegally to Maungdaw in Rakhine State.
The arrests were made during a maritime patrol when officers stopped a suspicious vessel for inspection. During the search, a large quantity of cement was found concealed on the boat.
According to officials, the shipment was being taken across the sea route without paying taxes. The estimated value of the cement is around 275,000 kyats.
The boat used for the transport has been seized, and the eight individuals remain in custody as legal proceedings are underway.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring sea routes and take action against illegal transport activities.
