A Bangladeshi family living in Ukhia is anxiously waiting for news after reports that a boat carrying Rohingya people to Malaysia may have capsized earlier this week. Their son, Mohammad Amin, son of Nurul Alom and Nur Nahar Begum, is among those feared missing.
Relatives said Mohammad Amin, who is Bangladeshi, left for Malaysia by river with a group of Rohingya travellers, hoping to find work. The family received information that the boat may have drowned on its journey. Some passengers have been confirmed dead and others rescued, but officials have not yet released a complete list.
Waiting for Any Sign of Confirmation
The family says they are desperate for updates. They are prepared to check photos of victims and survivors to confirm whether Mohammad Amin is among them. One relative said every hour feels unbearably long while they wait for official information. The uncertainty has caused heavy emotional strain across the household.
Anxiety Growing Among Local and Camp Families
The tragedy has created fear not only among Rohingya families in the camps but also among Bangladeshi families in Ukhia and Teknaf whose relatives sometimes join such journeys. Community members are urging authorities and rescue teams to release confirmed names as soon as possible so families can learn the fate of their loved ones.
The situation remains developing as officials continue to verify details. Families say they are hoping for timely and clear information that may bring an answer, whether of safety or loss.
