Tankali, Cox’s Bazar | December 31, 2024

A tragic collision between a bus and a motorcycle near Camp-11 in Tankali today at 12:00 PM claimed the lives of two individuals. The victims, identified as Liton Ghazi, a local worker from Satkhira employed by MARISE Cigarettes Company, and Abdu Rahaman (18), a Rohingya youth from Camp-12, died on the spot due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.

The victims were reportedly riding towards Kutupalong when their motorcycle collided with a bus heading towards Teknaf. Eyewitnesses described the incident as sudden and devastating, leaving the community in shock.

The bus involved in the accident has been sealed by local authorities, while the driver and lineman fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Immediate Response

Local law enforcement and rescue teams arrived promptly at the scene, ensuring the victims’ bodies were transported to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and locate the fleeing bus driver and lineman.

Community Mourning

The tragic loss of two lives has deeply affected the local and refugee communities. Abdu Rahaman, son of Mohammed Rofik and a resident of Camp-12 under Head Majhi Nur Hashim, was known for his vibrant personality, while Liton Ghazi was a hardworking individual supporting his family.

“This incident is a grim reminder of the dangers on our roads. We urge the authorities to take strict action and ensure justice for the victims,” said a local resident.

Authorities’ Statement

Authorities have assured the community that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances surrounding the collision and hold those responsible accountable.
